Treatment For Chronic Candidiasis

For sufferers of candidiasis avoidance of carbohydrates is of prime importance. Yeasts ferment fats and proteins poorly, but thrive on carbohydrates, particularly sugars. A rigid abstinence from refined carbohydrates should be observed to prevent Candida increase in the body. The types of foods to avoid are sugars, breads, cakes and pastries etc., mushrooms, aged cheeses, dried fruits and alcoholic beverages. If possible these foods should be discarded completely on a regular basis until the candidiasis is under control. Occasional ingestion does not seem to matter but, when eaten continuously they will feed Candida albicans and constantly aggravate and worsen, a candidiasis condition. The result is ongoing allergy illness.

High protein foods, including fish, seafoods, lean meats, nuts and eggs, should take preference, combined with low carbohydrate vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, broccoli, squash, cauliflower, cucumbers and asparagus. Additional benefits may be gained by restricting cereal grains, as many people will find themselves intolerant to these because of the candidiasis. Obviously, it is not desirable to stay on a protein oriented diet for too long. However, supplementation with plenty of low carbohydrate vegetables does not only help overcome the Candida problem but will also provide an excellent diet for the maintenance of general good health.

It is important for allergy sufferers to remember to test each food before including it in a yeast free diet. Due to the candidiasis, allergies may have already developed to some of the suggested foods such as fish, nuts and eggs.

Antibiotics should not be taken, unless absolutely unavoidable. In particular, the ‘broad-spectrum’ drugs, that destroy the protective bacteria in the intestinal and vaginal tracts, should not be taken over a long term. When this is unavoidable, an antifungal drug, such as nystatin, should also be taken to counteract stimulation of yeast growth by the antibiotic.

Of particular danger is the long-term treatment of acne by the use of tetracycline. This is a common mistake made by skin specialists. One of their standard procedures is to prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic for months at a time. Whilst this can help acne in the short term, it rarely works long term. The antibiotic causes further increase in the yeast infection which was often the root cause of the acne infection. In other words, like most skin disorders, acne is usually the sign of a deep-seated allergy disorder. Any long-term treatment by antibiotics will breakdown the immune system, promote candidiasis and result in further allergy illness.

Another condition arising from candidiasis, for which antibiotics are commonly prescribed, is urethritis. This is often diagnosed by doctors as the more serious and deeper-seated disease of cystitis of the bladder, because they do not understand candidiasis or its symptoms. As a result, antibiotics may be prescribed for weeks or even months. They do very little good and can actually harm the patient by aggravating the yeast infection which is causing the urethritis.

A further misuse of antibiotics is in their prescription for viral infections. They are not effective for this purpose, yet doctors continue to prescribe them, knowing this to be the case. General practitioners simply cannot grasp, or do not want to grasp, the simple possibility that viruses can cause infections by gaining access to the body through mucous membranes already irritated by allergic reactions to foods and chemicals. Candidiasis is considered a prime cause of this condition and antibiotics will only serve to aggravate the situation further.

Immunosuppressant drugs, such as cortisone and steroids should be avoided as they contribute to the breakdown of the immune system. These drugs will enhance the growth of yeast by their function which is designed to suppress the immune system in order to give relief of symptoms. This is a classic example of treating the symptom and not the cause. In this case the prescription of immunosuppressant drugs is actually harmful because, although in the short term symptoms will be relieved, ultimately the increased growth of yeast caused by suppressing the normal immune mechanisms will result in the deterioration of the patient’s condition. More intolerances and more debilitating symptoms will then occur.

What's the best way to treat chronic intestinal Candidiasis?
I have had chronic Candidiasis for years after taking many, many courses of antibiotics. I have been treating it with Pao D’arco and probiotics, but lately the Pao D’arco doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve tried garlic, caprylic acid and psyllium, and a few herbal blends, none worked very well. What would be the most effective natural treatment for Candida? Any kind of treatment suggestions would be nice.
Ok. let me be more specific, yes, I have been diagnosed by 2 medical doctors as having candidiasis. Yes, I already follow a no sugar, no white flour, no simple carbs, low-glycemic index diet, and have been taking acidopholus for many years. No, I do not have a psychological problem. I have a medically diagnosed over-growth of yeast in my intestines because of large doses of anti-biotics that were prescribed to me as a child when doctors gave antibiotics for everything, bacterial or not. I’m allergic to penicillin so I’ve taken the same antibiotic over and over again. Oxygen treatment has not helped. I’m looking for reviews of herbal products.

    Thanks

    I read this book (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071021205623AAwTOWn&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMiDdVUvD0kjLxf_jXcS2lh4EieDzMIMcbCQ–&paid=answered#HYF6H3T.JGmp.EPPeSzU)
I think theres a newer version out.

One of the main things the book focused (in terms of unusual diseases needing cures) was candidiasis (due to the fact it’s a pain in the ass to get rid of even with the alternative health stuff), and the author detailed a few physicians who finally figured out that oxygenating it would do the trick, and it explains the exact procedures they used (there was a bit more to it than just using peroxide).
I would really reccomend taking a look at the book, it should give you the best answer to your question, and strangely enough your q is the first time I’ve heard the condition being brought up in ages (even though the book made it out to be a big problem). I was kinda worried learning about how to cure it was going to just be pointless heh.

    Hope that helps!
Tell me if it does, I’d love to hear back from you :)

Candidiasis is a silly diagnosis..Are you sure you’re not suffering from hypochondriasis?? All those candida potions are a scam and you’re flushing your money down the toilet..People who have true problems with candida are on their deathbed with AIDS or Cancer….Sounds like a psychological problem..

Actually, the best thing you can do is change your diet. No sugar, no simple carbs. Period. Sugar means corn syrup, honey and/or maple syrup, fructose and other sweeteners too.

Simple carbs should be eliminated if they are white-white rice, white bread, white pasta, white flours, etc. Even bananas should be avoided. You can still eat high fiber fruits and grains but be sure they are unprocessed as much as possible. Those are what feeds the yeast. If it has no food it dies.

I have also had success using small amounts of herbs with berberine compounds (i.e. golden seal or Oregon grape root) Too much of those act just as antibiotics to though, so you should really ask an naturopath to monitor you if you wish to try that route.

Acidophiles is another supplement that may be helpful. The best way to get it is by ingesting it in live culture form-often people will eat yogurt.
